The University of Mississippi Horn Studio is a place to carve out your own corner of the musical world. An emphasis is placed on building a solid foundation of fundamental skills, while allowing each student to explore their own creativity.
While there is a general focus on etudes, solos, and orchestral excerpts depending on a student's goals, there is also the freedom to move within and beyond these facets to discover what resonates with each student.
There are no specific requirements for equipment (horn, mouthpiece, mute, etc.). What matters is how you play something, not what you use to play it!
Studio class currently meets once a week and involves combinations of the following:
Performance Opportunities
Horn Ensemble
Solo Breakdowns
Group Excerpts
Listening Examples
The studio aims to perform at least once per semester for Instrumental Area Meetings and/or Recitals.
